Senior Site Reliability Engineer
A Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) – IC4 in Product Engineering is the technical leader for the availability, resiliency, and reliability of Maya’s cloud-native banking and financial platforms. This role follows a Reliability-by-Design philosophy: your primary mission is to architect, automate, and continuously improve the operational aspects of mission-critical systems with significant focus on security, network, performance, monitoring, error recovery, resiliency, configurability, and cost-efficiency. You will drive the adoption of SLIs/SLOs, automation, and progressive delivery so that reliability is built into services before they reach production.
You are not just the strongest individual contributor on the team; you lead the team’s approach to reliability and resilience. You can independently architect and implement scalable, dependable systems, lead reviews and RCA sessions, and actively influence engineering decisions and reliability architecture. Your work materially improves platform uptime, deployment safety, and customer experience across multiple services and product areas.
NATURE OF WORK
More About You:
We’re looking for someone who brings together strong technical skills and a passion for making a real impact. Specifically, you:
- Cloud-Native Platform Depth: You have deep Kubernetes expertise (multi-tenancy, Custom Resource Definitions and Operators, deployment strategies), advanced Helm, and hands-on AWS experience on EKS. You hold an AWS certification of at least Associate level.
- Service Mesh & Resiliency Expert: You are strong in Istio (traffic shaping, mTLS, circuit breaking, and troubleshooting) and you apply retries, rate limiting, and chaos testing to prove systems tolerate failure.
- GitOps & Delivery Owner: You build robust CI/CD pipelines with GitLab and ArgoCD (multi-project setups, YAML templating, runner autoscaling) and integrate progressive delivery tools such as Flagger to achieve zero-downtime, low-risk rollouts.
- Observability & SLO Driver: You enforce performance baselines using SLIs/SLOs and observability platforms, and you use distributed tracing and APM to correlate issues quickly.
- Infrastructure Automation Builder: You are advanced in Terraform (custom providers, automated testing) across AWS and on-premise environments, with strong development skills in Go or Python and the ability to navigate codebases to pinpoint root causes.
- Compliance-Minded Banking Practitioner: You have experience with banking or financial systems and are fluent in PCI-DSS, BSP, and Data Privacy Act requirements, WAF rules and policies, and OS and database hardening against the CIS baseline.
- AI-Augmented Reliability: You have a working understanding of AI and LLM tools and use them responsibly to speed up troubleshooting, log and incident analysis, scripting, and documentation, while validating outputs before they reach production.
- Empathetic Leader: You mentor Senior and Associate SREs, lead SRE-driven projects, and balance individual contribution with growing the team’s technical capability.
What You’ll Do:
In this role, you’ll be the technical lead of the Product Engineering SRE team by:
- Architectural Innovation: Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant cloud-native solutions with reusable IaC modules.
- Advanced Automation: Automate application infrastructure, deployments, and releases using Terraform, GitLab CI, ArgoCD, and custom workflows, reducing operational toil.
- Complex Issue Resolution: Conduct deep-dive incident analysis, lead service restoration efforts, and run RCA sessions and reliability reviews that produce lasting fixes.
- Resiliency Engineering: Build resiliency into services by running failure-injection and fault-tolerance tests as part of release workflows.
- Observability: Define and tune SLIs/SLOs, alerts, dashboards, and distributed tracing so that deviations are detected and escalated early.
- Capacity & Cost Management: Lead service-specific cloud optimization, including right-sizing of EC2, ECS, RDS, and EBS, Reserved Instances and Spot usage, and EKS efficiency.
- Technical Program Leadership: Drive reliability initiatives and lead sprint work across SRE domains, including Disaster Recovery drills, backup and restore validation, PCI-DSS certification, and BSP compliance.
- Software Development: Review code for reliability impact and participate in platform engineering, building tooling that other teams can self-serve.
- AI-Assisted Operations: Use AI assistants and agents to reduce toil, such as drafting runbooks, summarizing incidents and RCAs, and speeding up pipeline and alert investigation, and share effective practices with the team.
- Mentorship & Documentation: Mentor Senior SREs and engineers, and keep runbooks, designs, and production change records documented, reviewed, and approved.
What success looks like:
- Availability: Meet the 99.99% uptime target for Maya services, with highly available environments that tolerate unwanted downtime.
- Disaster Recovery: Keep DR sites and resources 100% available, with backups and snapshots for all services and RTO/RPO validated through regular drills and restores.
- Delivery: Achieve zero-downtime deployments (blue-green or canary) and a 100% success rate across infrastructure, application, and database changes.
- Reliability Engineering: Define and track SLIs/SLOs for owned services, and complete RCAs with follow-up actions for significant incidents.
- Compliance: Pass the yearly PCI-DSS review, remain 100% compliant with the Data Privacy Act and BSP requirements, and keep all production changes documented and approved.
- Security Hygiene: Review AMIs and resolve CVEs quarterly against the CIS baseline.
- Cost Efficiency: Lower OPEX through right-sizing and commitment-based savings while maintaining availability.
- AI Adoption: Apply AI to at least one recurring toil area, with time saved or quality improved, and guardrails that keep sensitive and customer data out of external tools.
- Leadership: Deliver reliability initiatives and grow the capability of the engineers you mentor.

- Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, and Docker
- Istio service mesh
- Terraform and AWS CloudFormation
- GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD, and Flagger
- Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry
