Senior Software Engineer

Product Engineering 2

Our Mission

Our goal is for everyone to make bolder choices with their finances.

To get there, we're creating an all-in-one ecosystem of financial services for today's generation of goal-getters. That feat takes extraordinary people-those with the guts to challenge the way things are and transform them into something better.

To be part of Team Maya is to be Bolder for Better.

Description:

This Senior Software Engineer sits within the CBS (Core Banking Services) Mesh, focused on building the in-house Core Banking System for the Savings and Deposits Mesh

This  engineer will also be deeply engaged in modernizing the existing CBS services  — re-pointing them at the new in-house platform instead.

NATURE OF WORK

  • Design and build microservices across the platform’s build tiers
  • Work across a genuinely cross-team surface: the ledger team, in house team, account management system team, etc
  • Contribute to architecture and sequencing decisions in a 24-month, multi-squad program, where several tiers and several products are being built in parallel by different squads.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools as a standard part of the workflow — for design exploration, boilerplate/test generation, and spec drafting — while remaining personally accountable for the correctness of anything shipped, given the domain.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years professional software engineering, the majority in backend/distributed systems (not front-end or purely data/analytics roles)
  • Strong, demonstrable Java and OOP fundamentals — this is the primary language for the new platform’s services
  • Understanding of OOP and software design patterns
  • Profound understanding of web standards, responsive design, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and technical leadership.

Must have:

  • Strong knowledge of Java (or other backend programming language such as Node.js, Python, Go)
  • Strong knowledge of server-side frameworks (e.g. Spring Boot)
  • Hands on experience working with AWS services and tools
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and API gateway and cloud infra like AWS.
  • Heavy, daily working use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) on real production codebases, with the judgment to know when to trust AI output and when not to
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable practical experience

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience with, or migrating off, a vendor core banking platform (Mambu, Temenos, Thought Machine Vault, Finxact, 10x, Finacle) — direct familiarity with what this program is replacing
  • Experience with event sourcing / CQRS architectures
  • Experience building or maintaining financial reconciliation systems (matching transactions across two systems of record)
  • Prior experience specifically running a “strangler fig” style migration — old and new systems live simultaneously, traffic cut over gradually
  • Familiarity with Philippine banking regulatory context (BSP deposit regulations, BIR withholding tax treatment) — helpful, not expected on day one
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform or equivalent)
